Data. Power Jacks and Plugs. Audio Connectors, Jacks and Plugs.
ElectroShield has been an authorized distributor of high-quality, high performing, Made in the USA, Switchcraft connector components since 1999. We’ve recently added Data, Power and AV components to our robust Switchcraft inventory, including the popular EH Series of connectors used in a standard XLR sized panel cutout.
We chose to partner with Switchcraft because they have long been known as the quality leader in the electrical component industry. With over 30k standard products, they offer alternatives to many popular connectors such as power jacks and plugs, 1/4" jacks and plugs, and circular connectors. They also offer custom products.
Mitigate Tariff Impact with Made in USA Products
As tariffs on US imports continue, Switchcraft offers a high-quality, higher value alternative. Many electronic components, and connectors in particular, are built overseas and are currently subject to a significant import tariff. Switchcraft products, on the other hand, are primarily Made in USA and largely free from tariffs.
Although Switchcraft does source some raw materials globally, as a vertically integrated manufacturer who primarily uses local sources, the impact is limited compared to internationally sourced components.
If you have not investigated Switchcraft products we invite you to engage with our connector experts to look for an opportunity to make long-term improvements to your product quality in addition to the immediate tariff savings.
POWER JACKS & PLUGS
DC Power Jacks and Plugs
- Switchcraft is the only major US manufacturer of DC Power Jacks & Plugs
- Cross products are available for almost all popular types of jacks and plugs
- Sealed and high-amperage products are unique offerings few manufacturers offer
- Common pin sizes offered include 2.0mm, 2.1mm, and 2.5mm
- Split pin jacks offer 2.0 and 2.1mm option
- Solid pin jacks work with both 2.0mm and 2.1mm
- Most power jacks have shunt switch
- This is a mechanical switch, allowing power to be rerouted when plugged in
- Typical application was a change from internal to external power source
- Today, it is often used simply to detect external power
- The shunt also helps hold the plug in
Standard Power Jacks
“Split Pin” / Metal Bushing DC Power Jacks
- Stamped center pin has 2-tines
- Metal bushing accepts locking plug
“Solid Pin” / No Bushing DC Power Jacks
- Machined center pin is solid
- More PCB mounting options
Typical Mounting Options
- Solder
- Straight PC (Thru-hole)
- Right Angle PC (Thru-hole)
- Surface Mount (SMT)
- Hybrid Mount

- Great for any non-sealed applications
- Rated for 5,000+ cycles
- IP65/IP66 sealed version also available
- 3-6 #22 contacts, 7-8 #28 contacts
- Scoop-proof contacts
Tini-QG Options
- Jacks offer multiple schematics
- In most cases, a switching circuit changes signal flow whether or not a plug is inserted
- - For instance, plugging in headphones reroutes audio from speaker to headphones
1/4” Jacks and Plugs Overview
- Used in guitars and other audio equipment
- Still used for headphones, mainly in commercial settings
- Used in some industrial applications where durability is critical
- Products are rated for 10k+ cycles
- Hand adjusted jacks and significantly tighter feel

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a shunt switch in a DC power jack?
A shunt switch is a mechanical feature inside a power jack that automatically changes the electrical connection when a plug is inserted.
Common uses include:
- Switching from internal to external power
- Detecting when an external power source is connected
- Helping secure the plug in place
What is the difference between split pin and solid pin DC power jacks?
Split pin and solid pin power jacks differ in construction and application flexibility.
Split Pin Jacks
- Feature a stamped center pin with two tines
- Often include a metal bushing for locking plugs
- Provide strong retention for secure connections
Solid Pin Jacks
- Use a machined, single-piece center pin
- Offer more printed circuit board (PCB) mounting options
- Provide consistent electrical contact and durability
What mounting options are available for Switchcraft power jacks?
Switchcraft power jacks are available with multiple mounting configurations to support different product designs and manufacturing processes.
Common mounting options include:
- Solder terminals
- Straight through-hole PCB mounting
- Right-angle through-hole PCB mounting
- Surface mount technology (SMT)
- Hybrid mounting configurations
What are Tini-QG connectors, and when are they used?
Tini-QG connectors are compact, mini-XLR style connectors designed for reliable signal transmission in space-constrained applications. They are commonly used in audio equipment, communication systems, and portable electronic devices.
Key benefits include:
- Small form factor
- Secure button latch design
- High cycle life
- Optional sealed versions for harsh environments
How durable are Switchcraft audio connectors and plugs?
Many Switchcraft audio connectors are rated for thousands of mating cycles, making them suitable for applications requiring frequent connection and disconnection.
Typical durability ratings include:
- 5,000+ cycles for mini-XLR connectors
- 10,000+ cycles for 1/4-inch jacks and plugs
This durability helps reduce maintenance, downtime, and replacement costs.
